Joins us for our May meeting where our speaker Chris Army will discuss the maps which have come to frame our understanding events from July 1-3, 1863 at Gettysburg.
Meeting time: 7:30 p.m., May 14, 2019
Location: Thomas Balch Library, 208 West Market Street, Leesburg, Virginia
Topic: Mapping the Battlefield of Gettysburg
“Mapping the Battlefield” is a look at various entities that developed maps of South Central PA prior to the Battle of Gettysburg, maps prepared for Lee’s 1863 Invasion, maps prepared during the battle itself to help each commander develop his strategy to victory and maps prepared “post battle” to help us interpret the actions that took place on July 1,2,and 3rd 1863. Mapping continues to this day as we use period photos, maps and modern GIS systems to continue terrain interpretation to understand the Battle.
