The members of the LCCWRT are invited to join the Friends of Ball’s Bluff and the Ball’s Bluff guides on an excursion to the Shepherdstown battlefield sites on Saturday, March 26. There is no charge for this event.
The tour will be led by Kevin Pawlak, author of Shepherdstown in the Civil War. Pawlak is a graduate of Shepherd College and currently works as an Education Specialist for the Mosby Heritage Area Association.
See his book info on Amazon. He will have copies available for sale.
Meet at Temple Hall Farm Regional Park, 15789 Temple Hall Lane, Leesburg, at 9:00 a.m. on March 26. Temple Hall is about 4 miles north of Ball’s Bluff on Rt. 15. A sign will direct you to turn onto Limestone School Road from Rt. 15. Follow that to the Temple Hall turnoff.
Anyone who lives closer to Shepherdstown than to Temple Hall may meet at 10:00 at Ferry Hill (formerly Kyd Douglas’s home and now part of the C&O Canal park). Ferry Hill is on Maryland Rt 34, just north of the Potomac between Shepherdstown and Sharpsburg. You will see it from the highway.
The tour will take 2 – 2 1/2 hours. Afterward, those who wish to do so will gather for lunch and socializing at a site to be determined.
This should be a great tour of a somewhat lesser known battlefield. Kevin Pawlak is the expert on this fight. You may discover some surprising Ball’s Bluff connections.
This will be a good chance for Roundtable members and those of us closely associated with Ball’s Bluff to become acquainted and share notes about the Civil War.
RSVP by Thursday, March 24 to FRIENDSOFBALLSBLUFF@GMAIL.COM (or contact Jim Morgan) with any questions. When you RSVP, please note your name, phone, or email, and the fact that you’re a Roundtable member.
