Winter Talks for Black History Month at Oatlands

Although the Loudoun County Civil War Roundtable is on winter break, there are some events we’d like to call attention to.  In honor of Black History Month, Oatlands Historic House and Gardens offers the following author talks and book signings this February:

2:00 PM Saturday, February 1

Robert O’Connor will discuss the U.S. Colored Troop Prisoners of War, with a focus on his book, “The U.S. Colored Troops at Andersonville Prison”. His talk will include information on local soldiers who were imprisoned during the Civil War.

2:00 PM Sunday, February 16

Elizabeth Dowling Taylor’s book, “A Slave in the White House”, has been optioned by ABC for a 12-part miniseries.  Beth will discuss her book about Paul Jennings, who was enslaved by President James Madison, achieved freedom, and became a leading abolitionist.
