Our 2011 Summer Field Trip is set for August 13. Hank Elliot from Manassas National Battlefield Park is our guide over the First Manassas battlefield.
Topic: The Battle of 1st Manassas – (an in-depth walking tour with Hank Elliot (NPS))
Date: Saturday, August 13
Location: Meet at Manassas Battlefield Visitor Center parking lot (at 7:45 am).
Tour Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (with quick 30 min lunch break at 12 noon)
(Attendees are free to break away from the tour depending upon personal schedule at anytime)
Attendees should bring sunscreen, good walking shoes, tick spray, broad-brimmed hat, and water. Consider bringing a bag lunch, or making a short run for fast food in Manassas for lunch, as the time window is limited.
Henry P. “Hank” Elliott has been a historian at Manassas NBP since 2007. His previous posts in the National Park Service include Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania and Chalmette. His most recent article on First Manassas appeared in Blue & Gray magazine earlier this year.
Update: Attendees are reminded there is a $3 entrance fee to visit Manassas NBP (which is covered with an annual park pass or other approved NPS pass). We suggest a $10 to $12 donation to the park in appreciation to our guide and the park. We are not renting a bus, and will plan to carpool between sites as needed.
