19th Century Base Ball Day

What did Civil War soldiers during all that free time between battles?

Well sometimes they played baseball!

Needless to say, participants played the sport under a different set of rules than we see today.  You can get a taste of 19th Century Baseball on Sunday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg.    Pre-event promotions focus on the history of baseball, with some emphasis on the sport in Loudoun County’s history.

More details at the Loudoun Preservation Society’s web site.
